DAY .. 29.
April - 2003
Just out testing a new Toro 300 for one in the club. Local place just 400m
from home. Fog and 0 degrees.
DAY .. 27.
April - 2003
Competition day! The weather forecast was not good but 17 pilots had
entered the F3J-competition. 13 of them were as usual positive and arrived
early morning even though it was snowing today!!! After 4 hours of waiting
the whole event was over and the winner was anyone managing to bring the
best story of the day.... As you understand there was no F3J-comp. but
Aril did manage to squeeze in a flight with his New Sting and I did have a
short flight with the Majko.
A great little report from the day can be read if you understand
Norwegian. Egil Roland fra Vingen
modellflyklubb have made the report. Read it HERE.
Pictures of the pilots HERE
DAY .. 26.
April - 2003
Picked up Aril Røsvik on Gardermoen Airport. Tomorrow there is F3J comp.
at Spydeberg but the weather does not look good. The worst is though that
I for one times sake managed to forget my camera!!! But I Aril did bring
his :-) We arrived Spydeberg apx 12:00 and immediately put the winch into
action. Per Pedersen and Alf Erik Ross also arrived and made some use of
the winches. Strong wind made the silly 40 Japan line brake and our knots
did not pass the tests.. I had a lot of F3J-line with me but almost no
F3B-lines! But after a while we used an old 1,15 I had laying around and
we where in action again. Got some starts with my Superior X-tail before a small rainshower
stopped the fun. Aril managed to brake the elevator of his Stratos in a
zoom but with nothing else to do in the rain I fixed it so he could fly it
later on. There were also a new guy stopping by with his speed 400 model.
We had Chinese dinner in Askim and was back for some late night winching
before the sun disappeared around 21:00. The rest of the evening was spent
around some beers and lots of videos on my computer.

DAY .. 23.
April - 2003
Great weather and some slopeflying on my local slope Karihus. Both the
Opus and the Majko got some action.
BTW 17 year old Gavin Baskin broke the 300km/h limit in DS (dynamic
soaring) at Parker Mountain. Read
more.
DAY .. 21.
April - 2003
I LOVE DS but today it was slow fun. Today was this seasons first action
on my local "real" DS-slope. The snow is still laying around but
I managed to get the whole family up on the top in +15 degrees and lovely
easterweather. The wind was only 0-1m/s with gusts maybe in the high
2-3m/s. But when the whole family is eating the lunch and the sun is
eating your skin at over 1000m - then life is good. Had over an hour in
the air with the Majko while the Opus stayed put on the ground. Even
managed to DS (dynamic soaring) the Majko in the light conditions. Beware
I do not think this is a DS plane so DO NOT DS it in good conditions....
:-) Video is 4,2mb windows media HERE.
BTW Have you noticed that my
diary is almost 3 years now ?......
454 folders with pictures on my PC.....

DAY .. 20.
April - 2003
"Karihus" is a local slope that I normally use with
electro sailplanes. I have flown bigger planes here AND landed out 300m
below (The Wizard last year). 300m is a loooong way down. But today I
brought both the Majko and the Opus. The Majko showed me that the lift was
sufficient to throw out the Opus - so I did! The slope is cool and used a
lot by paragliders. The landing is ok but this is in the middle of the
hill and mostly there is a rotor in the landing area. This means that
there should be some DS there..... I have seen and tested DS on the top of
a normal slope but never on "a shelf" in the middle of the hill!
Well anyhow I did try and it did work :-) I even managed to get a small
video with my left arm while flying with the right.... See for yourself.
It is not fast DS but it worked and the nice "swoosh" sound came
every turn.
Video of DS HERE

Also a nice video of Paragliders taking of HERE

DAY .. 19.
April - 2003
Another day on the ice but today I brought my chair, a two
newspapers, lunch and a lot of coffee. The Majko got 6 flights - two of
them was training flights for a new pilot. A great relaxing day on the ice
:-)
DAY .. 18.
April - 2003
Winching a
3m+ plane is the coolest thing I can think of. I think there is nothing in
the modeling business I can do that is more cool (maybe except DS'ing a
3m+ plane). Today my Pike Superior X-tail had 8 flights on a local field (Vestringsbygda).
The weather was 18 degrees with the sun tanning my white skin... Life is
sometimes good :-) My wife used the video on my digital camera so here is
a small video (3mb windows media). Download the video HERE

DAY .. 17.
April - 2003
Ahh what a
great day! Over 20 degrees outside and some thermals coming into a local
slope (Karihus). The Majko flew for over an hour and my son Fredrik also
got 10-15 minutes sticktime. Brought the Opus also but I had some problem
with the ball-link on one elevator - so it was not in the air. The other
guys were on the ice but since the top layer of the ice does not support
the turnaround for the winch anymore I rather go sloping. Bob Latimir and
Haakon Sebu had a few flights with their paragliders so pictures will
appear at Eurofoto
just for you.

DAY .. 16.
April - 2003
Easter and
the season on the ice is almost finished. Today I got some practice on the
winch with my "old" Pike Superior V-tail and also tested the
Opus on the winch. 8 flights in super weather. 18 degrees mid-day is
incredible at this time of year and to be on a frozen lake in these
temperatures is cool. Also flew some flights with the Majko and my son got
his second flight ever!

DAY .. 14.
April - 2003
A proud father could finally give his 5 year old son the first
introduction to aeromodeling! Fredrik got his first flight today with the
Majko. I only gave him rudder control but that he soon descovered.
"Daddy why cant I also have up and down ?". "Hmmmm you have
to practice more on the computer" I said to him. Well he did pretty
well so we will see. Anyhow it was great to see my sons first flight :-)
DAY .. 10.
April - 2003
Today I visited Gjermund Westad and delivered a Pike Superior to Tor
Midtlund. Gjermund is a F3B-freak that wants to get every technical issue solved
in the most superb way he can think of. He (and Bjørn) is the mastermind
of the best signal equipment for F3B on this earth. He is also making his
own winches and showed us his "secret weapon" for the next line
of winches (See picture)

DAY .. 9.
April - 2003
Alf Erik Ross came for a visit and some flying offcourse. He brought his
Graphite and a small electro plane. It was a bit windy on the ice so we
went to "Lage-markene" were it was a little bit better. I got 3
long nice flights with the Superior and also two flights with the Majko.
DAY .. 8.
April - 2003
Just a quick trip to the ice for some Majko flying. Erik Eggum was also
there to get some training with his new plane. It is the first time I have
ever seen a guy coming to the airfield with the plane in bags not the opposite.

DAY .. 6.
April - 2003
Incredibly nice day but no wind at all. The F3F-event went down the drain
but it was a nice trip in the Norwegian mountains and some thermal flying
on those that just had to fly off the big cliff :-) My Pike Mini with
Superior tips was great for thermal flying in the nice sunny weather. Hand
throws out from the slope and up it went.
Thnx for a nice stay to Arild and Rolf Inge :-) I'll be back!
DAY .. 5.
April - 2003
Finally some real DS'ing again. Flew to Haugesund some 400km away to visit
some friends. Saturday was superb with 5-8m/s all day and increasing to
10-12m/s at the end of the day. The place is called Bokn and is a great
F3F site with DS in the back of the slope. The slope is pretty big and DS
(Dynamic Soaring) is safe here as one can take pretty big circles (as seen
on the videos).
I used both the Pike Superior X-tail and the Pike Mini with Superior tips.
In the evening we went to Rolle-Rolf's little cottage and had a nice
dinner and some competition. Mini-Z were spun around some wings. First man
with 3 rounds won the heat. Looong into the night we did not know who
really won.... Thnx for a nice stay to Arild and Rolf Inge :-) I'll be
back!
BTW Thnx to Rolf R. Bakke for the ftp-server that hosts my videos !-)
