2006
Yes I have been flying during the week but no
updates as I have been moving out of the house and have had
little time for the computer. I have flown a few times with
the Venture heli and the Nemo have gotten a few spins. Today
I went a day early for the National Championship F3B and got
some practice flights in. I also helped Thomas Lorentzen out
with his new Pike Giant and flew the first flights for him.
The model flew well and his setup was to my liking (offcourse
he had used my setup on the internet so no wonder...). He
flies the new "Windows" Futaba radio so I got to test it in
a well known environment (the Giant). The radio is a bit
thicker than the JR9303 in the feeling but the sticks are
good on it. Not sure I like the layout of the program though
but have not played much with it. Thomas is a natural to
flying so he handled the model well. Watch out for him..
I got 3 speed flights and
one late thermal flight with the Crossfire as well. The
starts were ok in the thick evening air but the thermal was
hard even in thick evening air. Only got 9min though I think
the air was better than that. But hey what can I expect from
a dedicated F3B model that leans toward the speed part of
F3B! I have no idea what my CG is but I did start around
96mm and I think I am a good bit further back. Have also
made some extra ballast to have inside the joiner. 9mm brass
cut to fit does the trick here and gives me an additional
300g of extra weight just in case it blows hard.

Speed taraining in 1-5m/s crosswind from east at
Spydeberg. That normally includes some turbulence in the
last leg and interesting landings. But we managed ok and 8
pilots got 12 starts in. Lots of "arms and legs" but I guess
that is natural when all wants the best and tries out stuff
before the Nationals F3B next weekend. Got some ok results
and got equal to my best speed from before. I flew mostly
Crossfire but also a few flights with the Brio to compare.
The Crossfire is easy to fly speed with but irritating
difficult to start well with. I choose to have a relatovely
easy start setup on it as I dont want funny situations. That
means basically the settings in the book but the hook a bit
more forward than the other guys. I also think I am moving
the CG backwards compared to them but have not meassured
yet.

Arrived for some practice flying F3B tomorrow at
Spydeberg. Met up with some of the boys and we flew both
winch (my Crossfire had its first winch launches) and the
Nemo got some spins.

Another day with testing of camera. The light is bad
with low clouds but I still manage to get some decent photos
considering it is my 3rd day with camera on. Actually
removed a few springs under the camera and it got better.
The reason for the place I am taking pictures today is that
I am webmaster for the
local
athlete club and they are making a new place for the
spectators. So I actually get a few bucks for it... Another
problem I found today is the fuel I use. It develops a lot
of smoke and with a little wind as today it gets in the way!

A couple of days with rain but I have been fiddling
with the Venture to get some heliphotos. Lot of crappy
pictures but I am beginning to get some good ones now. The
clue is how the camera is attached to the helicopter. I will
try different solutions as it goes. I am also looking into
converting it to electro as fuel is both messy, noisy and
expensive (used 2 cans soon).

Went to Klanten airport (800m grass) to fly F3B
practice but we went with Arild's car so I forgot the joiner
home off course... Arild flew his Ultimate with 3W70 and I
also got some stick time on it. Not 3D power since the model
is heavy but almost vertical power. The model flew great and
lands on less distance than the takeoff!. I also flew the
Nemo mini DLG a few flights before we went home.

Spent a bit time in the club's workshop and joned
the old broken Crossfire fuse and some other stuff. Outside
I flew the Venture a bit and my son taxed his small plane.
In the evening I suddenly remembered that there was
F5J extreme today so I went to a farmers field and took
out the Organic. Something was wrong but I finished the
flight and disvovered that one V-tail was loose. Took out
the Venture instead and for the first time flew it high up.
I even had a roll (not a pretty one with too much negative
pitch) and kind of lost it a few seconds. Well just had too
;-) My son flew his small plane totally alone for a couple
of flights. He also had a good laugh as small birds came
after his plane for a long time.

2006 - JR Venture 90-size
Who would have guessed they would see me with a fuel
helicopter??????
Well I found Thomas Lorentzen wanted a F3B/J model and I had
one brand new for sale... And since he had a chopper that
looked good on paper I just had to try this. Thomas was kind
enough to meet me at Hønefoss at Martinsen Hobbyshop and
after some shopping he worked my radio and set up most of
the helicopter for me. That was so good that after a few
more tunings I was out in the evening to hover a bit. I have
never had a good chopper but had a Hornet and have lent the
sticks of various helicopters in the club. That is why I
went for this one. It is a good well known helicopter with a
lot of option parts so I cant blame the helicopter... It
hovered well and I got it down just were I wanted each time.
Anybody know a shop with conversion kit to electric for the
JR Venture 90?

Micro Swift from
Mibo
modeli
At WC I picked up a lovely little thing for us that
needs that little extra. Not only have I flown the Nemo
Micro DLG much lately but I have also finished another "toy"
that is not of the ordinary. The
Micro Swift from
Mibo
modeli is not just another small "socalled" scale model
but a good workmanship for us that wants a bit extra. All
parts including elevator and rudder is glassfiber with
carbon reinforcements and the wing is very stiff yet light.
All surfaces are ready hinged though not with wipers (so I
made some... yes small and cute). The canopy is the only
part in plastic but was easy to fix since the seamline was
for correct. The wing is offcourse thin so even the smallest
servos I got in the hobbyshop in Praha was a bit big but got
them in. I actually think the wing is stiff enough to go DS
a little... Ehhh maybe not scale flying but maybe I just
have to ;-) I have not set the CG yet but looks like I will
end up on 420g or something. Cant get myself to cut the nose
for electric otherwise it would have been in the air now!
Should be cool to fly aerobatic with this cute thing on the
slope. Model comes in a nice little box and the model
offcourse breakes down to fit the box.

Worked a bit in the workshop with Arild today as he
needs to finish up his big motormodel. I got my Crossfire in
ship shape with new battery further up the nose and saved me
almost 30g. Emailed
Stefan
Eder to replace my elevators with F3B ones (I had
Extreme version in all carbon) and he replied that he
actually could get me some fast. So now with 6 degree
joiner, new fuse and lighter elevators coming I might see
the low 2,2kg even with double carbon wings. Have to get
some starts on it before the Nationals F3J/B at the end of
the month.

On the way back from the west coast I stopped at a
dam I have always wanted to DS. Took out the Crossfire and
got it out on the frontside. The wind was a bit from the
side but frontside was very smooth and cool to fly. This can
be a very fast F3F site even with only 5-6m/s as it was
today. But I was not here for the frontside so I entered the
backside. It was violent and much more turbulent than
expected. Strange but I had a feeling... I have flown a bit
flying wing here before. Anyhow it was a great experience as
the Crossfire was bumped around in good speed. Photos by my
son Fredrik

Too much on my mind lately
after the divorce so I feel it now. Got a big blowback down
here in Slovakia. Been flying on old rutine so many simple
and stupid mistakes have been made. Have decided that I will
relax today and not spot anything for the other team
members. I need to get on top again somehow. Sorry guys.
