DAY .. 8.
June - 2003
06:00 and it is time to get up! Last day of Ørebro Open is staring
at 09:00 and I am already tired... Can one be tired of modeling :-)
Anyhow we were all ready with our planes looking at dark clouds from
inside of Germund Westad's big igloo (double tent suitable even for
north pole). But the weather was nice to us and after some hours the
sun said hey you need some sun-tan NOW. The day was great for
me I think because I found that my Brio went faster and better for
every slug of lead I put in. It seemed that I had flown it all too
light and that the profile actually can be loaded just as much as
any other profile for F3B. My third round of speed was the turning
point I think because I loaded 900g of lead and flew really fast.
Too bad I took a chance and made a cut at B-base.... ended up taking
a full turn and 23,53... The thermals in strong wind was also cool
because 2030g (weight with V-tail fuse) was no problem at all in the
strong wind. But one thing is for sure. I am a F3J-pilot and needs
lots of more practice in F3B. I ended up as number 4 among the 9
Norwegians.
After 4
rounds were completed we all packed up and were waiting for the
results.
Congratulations to Pasi Vaisanen that became the winner. Speedmaster was Peter Hubbertz and best team was Germany 1.
I think many of the guys stayed to the next day and some drinking
after the competition was over. We went home and I was home after
1350km of driving both ways around 01:30 in the night.
I think you will enjoy the 49
great pictures in the Eurofoto album and the results are HERE

DAY .. 7.
June - 2003
05:30 and I cant sleep. I have been thinking F3B all week and is too
much hyped up I think. Breakfast at 06:30 and on the field for first
flight at 08:30. The wind was blowing steadily behind the treeline
at Pilengen with gusts at 6-8m/s and 36 pilots were ready. There
were pilots from Germany, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden for
this Eurotour event F3B. Many of the best pilots in the world are
here every year and it is hard competition. It seems to me that the
level of F3B in Norway is rising but we still have more practice to
reach the international level. We were 9 pilots from Norway this
year and with 9 winches we were well prepared except for the line thickness...
It is ALWAYS good to be a Norwegian in Sweden - at least when going
to sailplane competitions. The club Ikarus
had prepared all the necessary needs for a competition pilot. The
girls were the big clue here. Nice girls - always smiling - knows
how everything works - did I say that the contest director were a
girl ? And offcourse with a smiling line manager thru the beard.
After 2 1/4 round we finished today's flights and enjoyed a nice
barbeque at the site.
Looking at the listings I was now at 18 of 36 competitors. This I
was rather happy with since I consider myself a novice in F3B and
with a new plane that needed some tuning. I was very pleased with
the Brio today. It starts very nice and thermalling is a piece of
cake. I also feel that I have almost dialled in the speed setting but
are missing a bit in the distance.
So what was new and what other things happened ?
- The Swedes have prepared a new winch that looked nice.
- The Swedes have a "new" Race Machine going. It is
slightly bigger (20cm bigger wing and longer tail)
- Widar Holmedal broke his model on start
- Dan Eriksen blew his brand new big Racemachine in pieces when he
hit Gerd Weber's Caracho ? in Distance
- There were finally white T-shirts!!
DAY .. 6.
June - 2003
Arrived in Ørebro and started some practice at the local airfield.
The weather is nice but strong wind makes strong lines needed. We
started to wonder if we had enough strong lines for this event.... I
flew the Brio 3 flights and Ronny flew his New Sting (Calligula).
Ronny have not flown F3B for a long time so we did practice some
speed.
In the night we went to a local Vietnamese restaurant and had a beer
and some good food before we turned in at Ibis hotel.
