DAY .. 29.june 2006
- Been using the week to fix up the house a little bit but today I needed to fly a show at the opening of a new football field. I flew the Katana 2M with a big banner behind and Geir Atle flew his helicopter with a box full of candy that we released 2 times. The kids went crazy as usual ;-) Tomorrow I am going to Haugesund to fly the yearly "Haugaland Open F3F" with my friends Aril and Rolf Inge!

DAY .. 25.june 2006 - F3B
- Nice weather with the sun only blocked by a few thermal clouds. We had a good event with two full rounds completed (6 flights). I did ok although I lost a few legs in the distance against Espen and was not happy with my last speed. Duration was easy today though some groups was not full time.

DAY .. 24.june 2006 - Speedevent
- Today we had a speedevent before tomorrows full F3B. Nice practice in 5-10m/s winds and I am happy with my times that were good and even all 6 flights. My launches were also good. 4 of the 6 HERE. Espen won the event with me in third.

DAY .. 23.june 2006 - Katana 2M
- Up on Klanten airport to fly my Katana. Had two flights in nice weather. My son took the pictures.

DAY .. 22.june 2006
- Two days have gone with a lot of thinking. My wife wants to leave me! So my mind is now on hypermode thinking about all other things than model flying. But I really hope I can keep the thinking were it should be in a situation like this. Model sailplane flying offcourse! It does not seem to be any way back so it is mostly about financial and my kid on 9 years. I am anyhow in no way thinking about leaving the flying circus :-O

DAY .. 18.june 2006
- Another warm day with even higher winds that probably reached above the limit (12m/s) at times. Today we flew F3J with winches but now with 150m to the turnaround instead of the "normal" 200m in F3B. We had to set the winches 90 degree to the wind because of the airfield but that went remarkably well. The problem was not launching but turbulence in the landing for many. After 5 preliminary rounds some rain came in and they decided it was time for finals. I was first after preliminaries flying 4 times Pike Perfect (2 with ballast) and one time Pike Giant. In the finals I flew the Pike Perfect ballasted with 450g and that was fine in round 1 but in round two the wind died completely so I probably would have done better without. Anyhow I did well and won the finals with good margin. Thanks to the Vingen guys and especially Egil for a great weekend.

DAY .. 17.june 2006 - F3B
- Today we were going to fly F3B but with no distance task. So in windy and warm conditions we managed 6 rounds speed and 5 rounds duration. I did well in speed but took some chances in duration that made me land out in one and early in another. All launches were with 90 degree sidewind in the range 5-7m/s with gusts reaching higher. Speedcourse were also set 90 degree to the wind so it was crucial to get to base A fast. I was told to write "the best were all there"... so I am happy with the speedtimes. Just 0,1 sec separated me with the winner Espen Torp on average and we both had a turn with cut. Good day and my team had no line breaks since we went for 1,45mm line all day. Other teams use a lot of lines. I flew Pike Brio X-tail all day.

DAY .. 16.june 2006
- Arrived for this weekends F3B and F3J competitions in the club Vingen. We got a few flights today and it was good practice since this weekend it was going to be hard winds and only sidewind launches. Basecamp was at Egil Roland's place and we had some good barbeque and were welcomed well.

DAY .. 15.june 2006
- Yes I have been flying a little but no updates.. But today me and Arild flew a bit in the park. Me on the water with Osprey and him with the Mini Katana. Before and after we worked on his Ultimate with 70 gasoline motor. Arild is the mecanic and of us two and I know a bit on electronics. Tomorrow I will go to Skien and the club Vingen for F3B Saturday and F3J Sunday. Expect both that and my website to be down in the weekend as I think there will be a server upgrade.
BTW nice last page of todays newspaper

DAY .. 10.june 2006
- Very good session today. Very hot with 28,5C (83F) at the most and thermals that builds up and disappears into nothing. So I first had a flight with my electric Organic and then flew 2 flights each with Supra and Pike Perfect. Both models perform well in small thermals and though the Supra is lighter and can be flown in a tighter space the range of the Perfect is good to have when you need to reach the next thermal. The Supra launches maybe a bit better on the bungee histart. Next will be to ballast the Supra to equalize the Perfect in weight/size to see if the Supra can match the range.

DAY .. 9.june 2006
- Two sessions today. First I was at the clubs airfield and figured I was going to take some aerial photos since we have just filled it up with sand to get an even surface. Just a few weeks ago it was all sand but the pictures reveal that the lorry have some big wheels... The Organic 2,5m was equipped with a suitable 17x9 instead of the normal 16x13. The model was great for this work and lifted my Nikon D50 camera easily. See the aerial photos HERE
In the evening we were building a bit and I brought out the Osprey that I had not used for a year or so. Tom Olav operated the camera and I piloted it into some "summer shots". See the Osprey photos HERE

DAY .. 8.june 2006 - Brio
- There will be a few F3B and F3F competitions this year so I brought home a couple of new Brio double carbon tips. These needed to be installed (an hour this morning) and the airframe needed some adjustments. So the local football field was saving me again. Small bungee and a lot of small flights in very turbulent wind. Great for testing settings in high sink conditions.

DAY .. 7.june 2006 - Supra
- Had to get out to get some landing practice and the local football field is good for that. Had 20 short and 2 long flights on a bungee and most of them with a thermal or two I aborted to get more landings. I tried to get in the same way all the time and naturally that involved some downwind landings. Actually I need to adjust a bit as my Pike Perfect comes in slower. So a good session. In the evening me and my son went out to try his new boat he got from the daughter of Richard Blindheim (who was to old for it now..).

DAY .. 6.june 2006 - Podhorany logs
- Downloaded the rest of the logs. If you have Z-log program you can get prelim HERE and finals HERE. Or just look below.

DAY .. 4.june 2006 - Going home
- Jane found me a great place in Litomysl that was very nice and ok price. Slept well and got a huge breakfast with the best coffee in Czech ever. Father and Mother Vostrel drove me to the airport. Thanks a bunch to the Vostrel familly for taking care of me! Much appreciated. Results are now out

DAY .. 4.june 2006 - Last day of Eurotour in Podhorany CZH
- "Quick" report again. We woke up to rain but it stopped in time for the contest so we got to start at 10:00. High winds and not so many thermals made us fly on a slope far away. It did not always work and many landed out coming home in high winds. During the day some big thermals came thru but high winds average 7m/s and stronger in higher altitude made landings difficult for many. Some models broke and Karl Hinsch even managed to bend the hook of his Skymax that he have used for windy F3B many times. He also sadly broke his Sharon. There were several other incidences and some was also probably due to wrong model or layup in these conditions. One needs to have a model that can take all conditions in this game. So to order a "super light" or similar is not always recommended. One might suddenly need it...
I should also mention Philip Kolb that flew well but broke 3 lines 1,45 and that is part reason for him not being in the finals. We had 2 more preliminary rounds so a total of 6 with one throwout. I was pretty sure of being in the finals after 5 rounds so in round 6 I was probably a bit lazy in the landing and ended upside sown after a windgust. Still I was firmly in the finals and had to get a new spotter since both Jan Kohout was in the finals and my other spotter Michael Vagner was spotting for Jan. So I ended up with Karl Hinsch and that was a nice choice. Karl is calm and good to listen to. First final I had a little problem after 10min but after a probably 5-600m distance flight I managed to get under a thermal some other pilot had found. In the landing I was a bit hard on the down elevator and got a 95 landing but good time of 14:52,8. In the last final (only two finals) I found my own thermal and was very high and far back (690m). Coming in for a landing was ok but a lot of other planes in the way of my path made me have to speed in for the landing. But no problem my braking is set up very good so I nailed it just inches from the mark. I only brought Pike Perfect and Supra for this competition and I did not ant to risk my glass version Supra so I used the Perfect for all flights (though me and Philip flew the Supra in the evening).
Thanks to the organizers for a great competition as it was well run with only one protest. That was the timing equipment that suddenly played 10:10 working time instead of 10min. They used a CD player but when the power was low it had problems. they changed to a laptop playing wav-files but several measured faults here too (ref. Philip Kolb). This issue has to be recognized by all I think. A computer can make a mistake now and then (ref.: correction of times in other sports and PC servers that needs to be adjusted each night). A MP3 player will not do those random mistakes I think. Hopefully the WC equipment have been adjusted for this (I think it is). The best way is to use a PLS I think.
Anyhow the food was good, lots of smiles though it could have been warmer ;-)

DAY .. 3.june 2006 - 1st day of Eurotour in Podhorany CZH
- Not any good internet connection here but I just had to update.. I was picked up in Praha by Jane Vostrelova and after 4 hours (some heavy traffic) we arrived at the field.
89 pilots and difficult conditions with some high winds. Some carnage because of good launching conditions. Organisation is very goos with food and band playing in the evening. Most people live in tents or simple acomodation though some few travel to a nearby Hotel. Right now there is a football match between what was Turkish
Republic of Nothern Cyprus (T.R.N.C.) and the Czech team. The winner will be unknown and Jane joined the Turkish team as they were only 9 against a bunch on the other team (they were 9 against 9 initially). Great fun. Missing some here but hard competition. Right now one does not need full points to get to the flyoff as there was only a few hours mid-day that was easy. Myself? Well I had some great flights and my line was cut in one flight but I saved it by working a few thermals in low altitude in difficult conditions. But in the 4th round I probably hit the landing mark (apx 10-12cm in diameter and bounced of to a 80p landing. Now in ok place but no throwout yet. Not happy with two 95 landings either. My flights were 9:47 95 993p, 9:50 100 997p, 9:54,8 95 994p, 9:53,6 80 973p.
Czech and Podhorany might apply for WC F3J and it can be nice here I think. Though I have not looked at the Hotels.
Not so many new models but a lot of Espada, one Espada RXL (yes light and ok stiff), Pike Perfect and one Supra (mine).
Top half after day 1

DAY .. 1.june 2006 - Supra
- Going to Czech and Eurotour F3J in Podhorany this weekend. Needed some finals adjustments on the Supra a small field locally with a bungee was used for evening flights. Got 6 flights in and all is looking well. I am still around 96-98 with my CG even with some turbulent wind today. Travelling very early tomorrow.
