DAY .. 28. March 2005
- The AVA got a spin today. My son had 4 flights and actually flew longer than I did (ok only rudder control but). The conditions were nice but not any good thermals to get up on. Kåre flew a nice model that found the ice. 5 min flight and then suddenly no control after a touch and go. Battery was ok so something else that we did not figure out.

DAY .. 27. March 2005
- The nice weather does not seem to end! Lots of action on the ice today and I got to fly several models that not even were mine. I did fly both Fling (now with DLG pin on the wing), Hawk, DC3 and the big Beaver again with 2 sylinder 180... The guys from nearby place (Hov i Land) came by for a spin and we had a great time together. No warm clothes were needed today. One of the guys had a cool scale helicopter that looked cool in the air. A big thanks to RC-flight.com for letting me have a blast with their models. Not often one get the chance to play hard core with big models.

DAY .. 26. March 2005
- Today seemed like the big "teacher-pupil day" since Morten flew with his daughter and another boy and I flew a new model with my son. Yesterday I opened up a new box and made ready a Great Planes Fling ARF. It is a small HLG that seemed like a nice set for teaching my son how to keep a model in level. The model comes completely covered and only a few hours time is needed to complete it. The covering could have been better. It was probably nice into the box but after it had been half way across the world it needed some care. Sadly the cover used did not have proper glue so I will have to replace some. The use of a heat gun made the cover-joints come apart. So I should have used an iron all over instead. In the reasonable price it was also a small bungee (30ft rubber and 100ft line). 2 small and cheap D44 servos and a tiny GWS Rx is all that is needed. And offcourse a Rx battery. I will fit a single Polyquest 300mah cell in the nose although today I used a 4 cell 170mah NiMh pack. The model flew quite well as it was and I mounted it almost as the description said with only minor differences. What I did was first to drop the rubber bands to fit the wing and instead made a pin and screw. That fits me better. The joiner was sanded down 1mm and some carbon rowing was glued with cyano just in case I want to DLG launch later. I also made slightly less EWD (angle between wing and tail) so I could take the CG a bit further back. The instructions mentioned a big variation in CG so I draw the conclusion that it could be done. It flew just as I hoped for. Nimble and easy to fly for my son that is 7 years old. A first little toss and two clicks on the trim and then straight in my sons hands. He did have a bit problems with level flight (long times since last he flew) but with only rudder control he got the hang of it after 4-5 flights. He even flew the right way coming towards him. Thats good. The Fling is a cheap and probably a good choice for just fun tossing. It is atleast perfect for my son. My Fling came from www.elefun.net

DAY .. 25. March 2005
- No wind and sun all day long. My back was hurting so I sat down and looked at the others and occasionally flew the Shockflyer from the chair. Well that was until Richard from RC-flight.com came out with his BIG Beaver and wanted some help. I joined the fun, fixed the ignition system and had two long flights with it. Richard also had a flight so I took some photos off it in the air. Morten Bergene also had a very nicely built Cessna that came into the air for the first time (Not ARF). It flew very nice. Simple "scale" video HERE (5,5mb .wmv). A good bunch of other people were also around.

DAY .. 24. March 2005
- Again we were ready with Arild's Adrenaline. And sadly this model was not meant to be flying long... This time there was an issue with the RX battery connection (damn those poor UNI contacts..). It had some strange woble out of the takeoff and smashed into the snow before it came down again. Really sad... Not very much damage but the gear pin was bent. A new gear is 125€. Hopefully they can sell only the pin. I had a good flight with the AVA but some wind made it hopeless to follow the thermals too long. For the kids (and us) we made hamburgers and hot dogs on a small grill. So other than Arild's mishaps we had a great day.

DAY .. 23. March 2005
- Today I was out playing with my AVA but first I got to play with my old Majko that Arild was selling to Morten in the club. He wanted to see it in the air first and so he did. I miss it... Only one flight with the AVA before it started to rain actually! So we finished of the repairs on Arild's Adrenaline. I have said that I want another go tomorrow :-)
Video of the maiden flight HERE (25mb .wmv). Saved in good quality this time so you can play at 2x size..
BTW I think Arild is lookig for more BIG batteries (10S). Give him an offer on arild (@) hagabraaten.no

DAY .. 22. March 2005 - Adrenaline
- Ehhh we did some wrong calculations. After 11min of hard flying for the videoman Erik Eggum on the second flight Arild was hovering 5-10min above the ice and it was empty... He managed to flatten it out but the snow was hard and broke the fuse in half. So today we almost went for plenty drinking. But the model is soon in the air again since the damage was not severe and repairable. The combination we chose with a 18x10 showed enough power both for hover and vertical but Arild wants much more vertical power. So next up is the 22x12 that is suppose to be awsome (sounds awsome atleast).
So how did the model fly? It flew VERY well. We agreed on that it was the best model Arild had ever flown and it was gentle as a bird in the sky and hard as a hammer in the snaps. No bad tendencies at all and knifedge was almost straight forward. We had 0/0 thrust but it seems that we need to apply some right thrust and the CG came come back further I think (we had it 10mm behind the forward recommended). I also flew the model for 5-6min and had some good time in the air. Video is on the way from Erik our personal cameraman!
Oh btw. The motor mount was VERY good and Arild's idea!

DAY .. 21. March 2005 - Adrenaline
- Finishing Arild's big Adrenaline today. We have attached a far to big Hacker C50 14XL and 10S 3400mah battery. The motor can run a 22x11 but first of we try the 18x10. The test shows that the 4,3kg Adrenaline will have plenty power.... See the test inside Arild's house HERE (5,4mb .wmv). On full power Arild will have 10min of flight time and power to go vertical forever I think! Hopefully the weather will be with us. I also got some flights with my Pike Superior today. Awsome weather today and several of the guys were out flying.

DAY .. 20. March 2005 - Ventus
- A tribute to a great guy with great visions!! I have made a page to answer all the Ventus questions:
http://www.vfkm.no/flyshow05/ventus_en.htm

Gudmund Malones arrives Fagernes Airshow with his 9m - all carbon - turbine powered model

DAY .. 20. March 2005
- Oh man we are building BIG. Atleast big compared to what we are used to with electric setup. We started on Arild`s Adrenaline today and it should be cool. Hacker C50 14XL with 6,7:1 gear and 10S 3200mah cells... Big thanks to Achim Streit that sold the motor for a reasonable price! I dont have 10S yet so Arild will use the motor in his Adrenaline (and he had too much money on hand...). I wil get mine tomorrow but are still missing batteries. I am not 100% sure what batteries to buy after my burnout last time (see 11.march). Any suggestions to a 6S pack that can handle 40-60A? Last time I used 38A but I think I will go a bit up now with the bigger Adrenaline... Arild also got a cool picture of me driving car on the ice... Maybe I am doing the wrong thing ?-)

DAY .. 19. March 2005
- Lost a bit of interest the last week due to several reasons. I lost a plane (lots of equipment inside), worked very hard all weekend for the airshow, got strange feedback after the show, etc. But now I am back I think. www.RC-flight.com have decided that I needed a new plane (Gudmund also offered his Rush. Thanks!!) and what better than to step it up a bit to the bigger Adrenaline!!! Should be fun :-)

DAY .. 19. March 2005
- A new nice day on the ice. Did only fly the Hawk and borrowed Arild`s Harrier for a flight. Also received the new Hacker C50-14XL motor that Arild have laid his hands on... He said yeas before I burned my Rush off so I guess he will have to give it a go first :-) Arild also opened his wallet for a BIG Kokam 10S pack so with 18-20inch prop it will be cool. I think I will fit my AXI in a new model (see over) and feels that the power will be good for that also. Arild have started the work on his Adrenaline...
New today was that I received some new wing covers for the range of Pike models. They seem very nice and will be cheap for the customers. The cover is made as a transport AND sun cover. Look at all the pictures HERE

I have also meassured the speed of the Ventus that flew and crashed during the airshow. Some said that it was well above 150km/h but that is not true. The max speed during the airshow (he upted the turbine to 11kg thrust) was 137-139km/h no matter how he flew. Check this picture

DAY .. 18. March 2005
- Indoor again and both me and Arild had some fun. I flew my Shockflyer and the 3DX while Arild flew the new Shockflyer F3A and the Lierider.

DAY .. 18. March 2005
- Aaaah a clear bright day and a chance to get some silent flights. My trusty Superior came in the air and I had many great flights. The spring is soon here!

DAY .. 14. March 2005
- We cleared the field for garbage and took in all of the fences. I also got a flight with the Hawk.

DAY .. 11. March 2005
- Follow the Airshow at www.vfkm.no
Video Ventus HERE (12mb .wmv) | Pictures airshow HERE

Oh btw... I had full "burnout" after 1min... Sad. About 6-7000Nkr went (Rx, 4 digital servos, Sbec, battery, model). Hopefully the motor and controller is ok.

DAY .. 10. March 2005
- Tomorrow the yearly airshow starts and I am speaker all weekend. But some are here allready today and we might have seen a "world record" today. Imagine a 9m Ventus built all in Norway in pure carbon fibre and with a 11kg turbine on the top (yes thats scale). It takes off by its own power just by a nimble touch on the tip the first meters. Gudmund Malones is the builder and pilot and though he did not loop on the first flight he did some cool high speed flying. The climb rate was also good at 30degrees+

DAY .. 9. March 2005
- Now finally the Rush (RC-flight) had a flight. Was conservative and attached a 17x8 on the AXI 4130/16. Motocalc said 41A, 6000rpm and a thrust of 3900g. The Rush weight was 2550g with all up so I wandered how far from the real world was. I meassured 38A and 6500rpm so the real world seemed better than Motocalc (hey its only a program...). I had read a few reports on the internet about CG and throws so I started on a CG that a few said was super for 3D. It was 40mm behind the recommended but I tried anyhow since many said the recommended was way up front (100mm). First flight was ok but way too much throws and a CG that was too much in the back for my liking. But it flew nice and knifeedge 10m above ground was cool with such a big model (1,4m). I had a problem with the controller so I stopped after 7min of flying and charged the batteries. 1350mah came into the 6S 2600mah pack so it seems I have plenty of power and ok time. BTW The power was enough to go endless vertical in high speed... (motocalc says 8m/s) Way cool.
The set was easy to complete and easy to convert to electric. I probably was in the hobbyroom more than my wife wanted me to but apx 8-10hours is not much. I used typical F3J servos in the wing (Graupner C351) and very good Volz Micro Maxx digitals on elevator and rudder. They are only 24g and helped me keep the weight down and still have 7kg of power on the surfaces.

Rush can be bought at RC-Flight.com

DAY .. 8. March 2005
- Had to check out the DC3 again after the indoor session. So I had some nice flights with bigger props and a bit more power. The run time goes a bit down but hey I dont need more than 25-30min of flying on one pack....

DAY .. 7. March 2005
- What is this? Have Jojo gone mad? Seems like it. 18x10 prop is not uncommon for Jojo when flying electro sailplanes - but this one has wheels! More to come...

DAY .. 6. March 2005
- Oh man I am tired. After 200km of driving each way and 7 hours on a hard indoor floor with half of the time in a microphone I am busted. But it was fun. 25-30 pilots, 8 hobby shops, a good spectator crowd and good friends. We had lots of fun on this years Ekeberg indoor meeting. Many of us also took it all out. Pål made all the spectators laugh 3 times when he 2 times tangled his model in the balloon cracking contest and even on the pylon race he caught some stuff in the ceiling. But he gave it all. Then it was my turn to stop laughing... I tried to get the DC3 in the air and had it going on a wide taxing around the big hall. Then a table "popped" out and grabbed the plane. Now what on earth was a table in my path? OK I did a mistake and got a crack in the leading edge but mostly it is just small stuff. But I had not completed my task in getting some good photos for a magazine so I had to go again. This time I only lifted it of the ground for the photo. Why does this model have no brakes???? Well it did stop at last :-) I also flew my 3DX mini and Shockflyer for apx 3x7-8min but thats all I got between doing work for the club Cirrus-rcfk.no. Sorry that I did not take more pictures. No time. On the right you see what you really should have if you are serious about F3A or hovering big models... A Hacker B50 13XL was seen at the T&K stand... oh it looks nice.
Can I have one pleeeease :-)

DAY .. 5. March 2005
- 50min of flying today on 3 flights... The DC3 have been in the air and this is maybe the first time I have liked to fly a scale model (and really fly scale). With two packs of 3S 1300mah Lipo packs I could fly 35min on full power or apx 50min if I just cruised around... Talk about efficiency! It was not vertical power so I will probably fit some scale 3-blade props on it it later but for scale flying there is no need. Takeoff length was 5-10m :-) Shop it at: RC-flight.com
Arild took a lot of video with my camera so
here are a nice little "capture of excitement" :
Normal version 20mb or 7mb small version .wmv

DAY .. 4. March 2005
- Indoor again and we had loads of fun. Arild with the new Shockflyer and Lierider while I flew Shockflyer and 3DX + taxing with a model I have built for RC-flight.com. It is a Dakota DC3 that is equipped with 2 brushless MTM motors and 7x3,5 props. Whats cool is that I can couple the motors to the rudder so that when turning one motor is spinning faster than another. Taxes really cool! A little to big for flying inside sadly though I almost did... Tom Olav also showed up with his Lierider and joined the fun. Maybe some video later but have too much other stuff to do right now.

DAY .. 1. March 2005
- Me and Arild went out to try his new F3A Shockflyer. It flew better than the old Shockflyers with no doubt. 160g + battery was his final weight. He used a 3x350mah and a 3x600mah and had great fun until the controller said it was empty. Off course the battery was not empty but it was so cold that the voltage dropped much (-14 celcius). I also had a spin with it and could confirm that it flew nice. Later in the evening we had a clubmeeting and flew some more. But it was even colder and our fingers.... need I say more!

DAY .. 1. March 2005
- Ok I have started fixing my workroom to get space for new models. Arild helped me today and afterwards we started building his new Shockflyer F3A. El-flight had a cool gadget for the motor. Looks nice.
