Perfect electro
I was going to take out the winch today but
forgot the turnaround... So the electro fuse was
taken out of the car instead and I flew the Pike
Perfect ET electro. Nice weather and some weak
thermals made it a great day on the ice.

Fagernes Airshow
About 100 pilots meet on the ice for a fun
airshow and just have fun for many days. My work
is various but I mostly try to say some words
now and then as speaker. You can follow the days
at
the clubsite. I will link up all the photos
and videos here also afterwards.

Ice
A very nice weekend with sun and "warm" on the
ice. Most of the young guys got to fly their
planes and I flew my Perfect ET and had a cool
crash with the Easyglider FPV. Was flying along
the "beach" and as I was sitting inside the car
and in between the other cars I guess 2.4ghz
might not be the best way when you fly at a few
meters above ground 7-800m away ;) But cool to
know that it worked so far away!!

Perfect electro
Got to fly the Pike Perfect ET electro today.
Works this too ;) But it was totally different
to fly due to a CG way off. Need to check that
on the electro fuse. But Kay Arne made some
great photos and it was a nice day on the ice.
And I got my new
hat from Mari (Kay Arne's wife). Very cool
;)

"Clinching" the antenna's for a real fight ;)
DAY .. 8.March 2009 -
Cyprus F3J Open - final day
Oh yes. What a day. I finished up with 6
straight 1000points and then for the throwout I
got 998p in the 7th round. Worst place to be
after preliminary rounds. Todays conditions were
2-4m/s winds in the morning with little or no
thermals but it got better and suddenly it
popped all over and the wind was up and down a
bit (3-6m/s). For the finals the conditions
calmed a bit but some thermals were around and a
few of us got away right away going very far
downwind. Many did not make it home and landed
out for a relaunch with spare plane. I flew 9:54
and a 98p landing in the first final. Second
final the same happened with the only certain
thermal passing a while ago but now many more
managed to hang on. I missed a bit in the second
landing (95 and a 9:53,?) but Primoz had lost a
bit time in the first one so it got to be a
close race for the victory. The result was never
really clear before the ceremony! Wow. Thanks to
all for a wonderful competition. This is my 2nd
time here (and a bit more to Istanbul) and it is
always a blast with pilots flying in from all
over.
Maybe I will write more later. Now a shower and
some food will be good. Maybe they have
champagne? ;)
I would like to thank my team that did really
well (Vlastimil, Karel, Prioz and Sasa) but also
my team in the finals Mr.X, Ilgaz, Sydney and
Colin.
It was probably surreal for many as the
conditions were hard and you can see that on the
scores. Well not all because we won some rounds
with much less than full time... I won a round
with 4:19 I think but all my other rounds had
full time.
In the "sandstorm conditions" saturday I flew
with full ballast and my heavy fuse/midsection.
So I had a auw of 2,9kg. The model was tracking
well in the wind (7-9m/s) and I had no problems
moving around or going up fast in the thermals.
Just dialed in the thermal camber as soon as I
hit the good air (1,5mm).
On sunday the conditions were calmer (3-5m/s or
so) so I switched the tips over to my lighter
fuse/midsection and flew without ballast all
day. AUW 2,15-2,2 (dont know the weight of new
tips yet). It would have been nice with ballast
in some of the rounds but I had no problems
flying far downwind and coming back in neutral
or thermal when the conditions allowed.
The new tips now makes it possible to "go back"
to the standard joiners and it flies with no
opposite aileron in the turns. It circles even
tighter than before and tracks better straight
ahead. Hang time seems good too.
So it seems the change did what it was supposed
to. Get an even easier model to fly and make it
bigger for the dead air days.
There should be no need for bigger
elevator/rudder as Philip designed them 10%
bigger than calculations said in the first
place. And my testing friday with backwards CG
tells me it is big enough. In the competition I
flew with CG 111mm with and without ballast.
I flew my ET tips all the time.
Primoz flew his big Explorer (and huge elevator
as you can see on the pictures) in some rounds
and the finals.
Vlastimil did not fly his ET. Only the standard
Perfect.
For all you Explorer guys.. To me it seems like
the Explorer flew very well with the new larger
tips and elevator. I was timing for Primoz in
the preliminaries and I think he flew better
with the big one. It also seems to fly well in
the wind though he did not fly it in the
strongest winds because his model is a very
light one.

DAY .. 7.March 2009 -
Cyprus F3J Open - first competition day
A long it feels like but we actually stopped
flying early because of high winds (7-9m/s). We
stopped even though we are not the FAI limit
because the organisers did a good job getting 4
rounds in and it was wearing on lines and
models. Not all had brought the right stuff I
guess. Weather was otherwise nice with a fairly
hot day with haze in the air leaving mountains
not to be seen. We started early today and got
breakfast on the bus so we could sleep longer
and good lunch and drinks on the field at no
charge. At the briefing we decided a heavy
200EUR protest fee and the jury has not had to
come in action yet ;) Rules is FAI F3J and we
fly 8 pilots in each slot with 10 pilots
entering the 2 round finals tomorrow. Later
today we will have a dinner party for all.
Hitting the shower now after a good day and the
new Pike Perfect ET (Extended tip) is working
well for me. Flew with full ballast all day (AUW
2900g).

the list ;)

DAY .. 6.March 2009
- Cyprus F3J Open - practice day
Practice day of Cyprus F3J Open and it was kind
of nice to get away from the snow and ice and
enjoy 26C as todays best. I also received my
Pike "Perfection" (as I call them for now) new
tips. This is longer tips with a new set of
airfoils. They were ready with servos when
Wlastimil gave them to me so it took me 10min to
hook them up and program them on the Tx. It was
windy and the other guys have ordered SL
versions but I had fairly normal 68 with carbon
tube in the ailerons. Had 5 flights in windy but
thermal conditions in 3 of the flights. I flew
with the standard joiners as I wanted to see if
the new airfoils made the circling better. It
is!! Now you dont need any opposite aileron (on
my CG atleast) and the model seemed to track
well in the turbulent wind in the landing. I
also flew with the CG further back on a
different model and it seems the big elevator is
big enough. Good Philip designed it that large
in the first place. I am very happy after those
few flights and since the handling is so equal
and better I will be flying them in the
competition that starts tomorrow. It will not be
the models fault if I loose a round or two.. I
was not the first to fly the new tips since
Wlastimil flew an hour with his SL tips on
Tuesday.
We have been taken good care of here in North
Cyprus and is happy to meet all the smiling
faces. You just can not do anything else but
smile when you meet this friendly guys. All
models for all pilots have arrived. The field is
the same as last time and is a great field with
absolutely no way of sloping or getting strange
advantages. Tents are up and food is always good
in this area for a Norwegian atleast. More when
I get the chance.

DAY .. 2.March 2009
- FPV again...
Yes I cant stop FPV'ing... Its fun and I really
want to go thermalling as soon as the spring is
here with a bigger plane. Club meeting and the
usual building with the guys on Mondays as you
see. And I am building a nicer "pod" for the FPV
on my Perfect
