DAY ..
30.november 2005
I guess I was the first one in the club to fly on the ice
this winter. I took my Adrenaline and my son with me and met up with
Geir Atle that operated my camera while I flew a long almost
12minute flight with the Adrenaline. I also fitted the logger and
found that the results is even better than
Motocalc predicted.
The vertical was up in 23-24m/s but dropped to 19m/s if the
batteries went cold. See
the log HERE. Some more use of the throttle quickly fixed it. So
I should plug all the holes in the canopy when flying in the winter.
My son drove around with the Lego-racer but we quickly got very cold
on our hands since the lake we were on was not in the sun and it was
-8,5 celcius outside... But it was nice to get out flying again. Bad
photo-conditions but Geir Atle made some nice photos anyhow with my
cheap 300(450) lens. More photos
HERE.
Oh Btw.. This model is extremely kind to fly... Knifeedge is with
just a touch of down elevator and all pattern manouvers seems to be
easy to me as a sailplane pilot. Needs to work on that hovering
though.

New Mini 3DX had to be made as the old one was getting
really bad... This time I made the wing in 6mm depron with extra
carbon in front and hingeline and the rest in 3mm. I also made some
triangles on one side of the fuse so I could both get a stiffer
model and hide some of the equipment. The weight ended up at 169g
ready to fly and the model is very stiff. After the picture were
made I testflew it and also added more graphics. Seemed to work well
though I needed to adjust the engine mount slightly.

- Thank you Per Arne
My Uncle, friend, and best discussion buddy in
airplanes ever died tonight.
Per Arne you will be remembered well.
It is even your fault that I am flying until this
day.
I will continue flying in the memory of you!

24.november 2005
Out on a football field to test the new altitude logger I
got. Very cool with a tiny backlit display to show current
or highest altitude on the trip. Weight is 8,1g and it is so
tiny that it fits anywhere. I pushed it into the fuse of my
Graphite and logged a flight to see how much climb I could
get and I even logged a thermal that went thru. Picked it up
two times actually. The climb rate was poor on the first
climb (14m/s) compared to number 3 and four (19,3 and
19,6m/s). This is typical if one have charged the GP2200 and
waited too long before the flight. They perform best just
after charging and needs to be charged at 5-6A on a NiCd
program. BTW the motor is Hacker B50-6S and I used 9cells
GP2200. |

- F5J eXtreme
Finally I got to fly the Graphite and even a tiny bit of
competition feeling. This weekend was F5J extreme on RC-Groups and I
entered with the unproven Graphite. Lots of problems after I crashed
my Superior some time ago but parts from different friends gave me a
Graphite to play with today (new fuse to the Superior have arrived
luckily). The controller (FAI18) seemed to
work though I had a motorcut in the second climb first round. The
weather was calm and cold (-2 to 0 celcius) with small "bumps" in
the air and first round went well after some dialing in lots of up
elevator. Might have to adjust the CG or put some tape under the
elevator. I flew all 3 rounds with 2mm up elevator so more tweaking
can be done. I also had done a poor job gluing the flap servos in so
round 2 and 3 was with only one flap. The fact that a frozen
football field is very slippery and with only one flap I am not
happy with my last two landings so I took a practice 4th flight just
to punish myself. But I have to say that to get 4 flights with so
little motortime is a good virgin flight on the model. One could
have actually followed me on the webcam for all flights and I
snatched a small photo with my mobile internet
HERE. Results: 1rd 9:55, 16s motor and 1-2m alnding. 2nd 9:56,
11s and 4-5m. 3rd 9:57, 15s and 4-5m. The competition results can be
followed

20:30 - Indoor
Finally a day indoor with more than two pilots.. 4 from the club and
two that had driven 2 hours to be here. Tons of fun and all had some
carnage.. Arild even lifted his Mini Katana indoor. Very cool.
Highpoint of the day was a christmas tree that did not work but fun!
Lots of pictures HERE

16:00 - Graphite electro
A long time ago I took care of some old Graphite parts. I
now got some other broken parts from my uncle and together I
was able to put together a complete Graphite electro model.
My car was in a workshop but with
F5J eXtreme
this weekend I needed to test it before the sun went
completely gone. Local football field was to be the place
with frost on the ground. The test was not successful since
my controller was no good. So I ended up with 50m flight
after 1sec motor time. Hopefully I can fix it so that I can
fly on Sunday.
DAY ..
13.november 2005
Another day with powerflying... Well the Adrenaline is
getting slowly into my fingers now though I still am not confident
hovering it. 2 flights today and Arild got a few with his Katana and
we troubled with the motor on his Harrier. I am beginning not to
like that engine... Weather was wonderful and thermals were coming
thru... And yes I have managed to trick Arild into buying a JR radio

12.november 2005
Sorry my sailplane friends. Yet another motor picture though
I have flown DLG several times this month. But today I tried
"lasso-launch" and that was amazing. A bit difficult to predict
exact launch angle but the height was very good and much better than
with same rotation speed. I must say that I never go for very high
altitude launches as I try to keep my back the way it is.. But I got
the Solo to flutter and took a servo gear. I have never done that
before... One spin just slightly moving forward and I was probably
at 40m (130ft). Used apx 1m (3,2ft) string and the peghook as the
picture of skewbe in
THIS THREAD. Might not be perfect for second launch in a
competition since it takes a few extra seconds to hook on and get
ready. But first launch in each round might be... I must say that I
have a bad back so I never go for extreme launches. But this makes
DLG throwing very easy for me. But today I started of with my
Adrenaline flying 8min and while I was waiting for charge to
complete I found the DLG. Ended the day with a second 8:30min flight
and with the 20x10 APC prop I had used 2050mah (so still left
1150mah of the 10S pack). Motor is Hacker C50-14XL with 6,7:1 gear.
Had fun practicing a lot of knifeedge today and it was difficult
with turbulent wind coming 90degrees to the field.

11.november 2005
Indoor as every Friday. Arild managed a damage I have never
seen before.. Split wing! I flew my old Shockflyer that has not been
used much. It still flies well and both me and Arild gave it plenty
of flight time with 4 batteries used today.

DAY ..
8.november 2005
Today we went to Hønefoss to buy some hobby stuff of
Martinsen
Hobby and Arild were going to buy some floor for his hall. We
did bring my Adrenaline but weather did not permit us any flying.
But a lot of coffee drinking and some nice hours in the shop. No I
did not go crazy but I did buy some stuff... A new charger, spinner
for the Adrenaline and some depron (might build a new Mini 3DX)
DAY ..
7.november 2005
No flying today by me. I only checked some range on the
Adrenaline and fried the S-bec. I was sure it was big enough but
does not seem to be... It might be that to take 42v and use such
powerful servos might be a little over the edge. I did not have time
to check amps on full stall but will do so tomorrow I guess. Rx
battery is now installed again..
Arild flew a flight just as the fog lifted with his Mini Katana.

DAY ..
6.november 2005
Time to visit a nearby club that had a indoor club meeting.
So what is more natural than to leave early to test their airfield
also? I arrived at "Rasarud" near Hønefoss, the local clubfield of
Ringerike
Modellfly klubb. I flew my Adrenaline and Solo DLG and watched
another guy fly his Harrier before we headed for indoor. 10-12
people wee there but few of them were flying of natural reasons I
think. The hall was very small but it is the only one they can get
for a reasonable price for now. For me it is big enough so I flew my
Mini 3DX and also borrowed a small helicopter that actually worked
very well (I got to test it since my 3DX were flown by several
people..). We had a good time for several hours and I was home in
time for dinner.

DAY ..
5.november 2005
No rain when I got to our flying field but while flying it
started off course! I flew 8min with the Adrenaline and after
charging I had used 1600mah (of total 3200mah). Have some glitches I
have to address. I forgot that I had the phone in my pocket and I
know that is no good with the Tx I used today. Will test some more
later. For those that wants to remember how it flies the first
flights video with Arild's model was back in March
HERE. Though I have a bigger prop with less pitch now.

DAY ..
4.november 2005
Indoor but we did not fly for long. We need to get out among
people and not only do our own thing... I flew my Su-31 with a
bigger 1200mah battery (CG too far forward) and the 3DX. Arild flew
his Shockflyer F3A.

DAY ..
3.november 2005
Raining outside but there is a festival in town so I went
into one of the tents to fly the Su-31. Had a good time but
difficult not to hit those poles...

- Adrenaline from
RC-flight.com
Fantastic autumn weather so I took the Adrenaline out for a
spin. No wind today though thermal activity almost made me
take out a sailplane also! Had one flight of 5minutes first
and charged only 700mah (I was flying mostly smooth) then a
full 10minutes flight with full aerobatic. Never near using
all the battery capacity... I have chosen to fit a small
prop (20x8) since that is enough for unlimited vertical.
Tested some negative camber to loose some lift in the
landing. Not sure if I need it but it will help in small
fields. This model is super easy to fly and can fly very
slow landing approaches. Still I am not comfortable since it
is a motor plane I guess.
The motor is a Hacker C50-14XL (1200rpm/v), gear 6,7:1 acro,
batteries 10S-3200mah Kokam (Graupner), controller Hacker 77
opto and a 20x8 APC in the front. |

DAY ..
1.november 2005
Me and Arild went out for another spin on the local parking lot. Him
with Mini Katana and new controller. He had an issue with 4 servos
strangely enough but with another Rx it was ok again. I also got
some minutes with his model but also flew my SU-31 the second time
we were out flying today.
BTW Good turnaround time at JR. I had an issue with it in Istanbul
(my own fault) and Jim McCarthy was kind enough to bring it back to
JR a few days later. After just 6 days they sent it back to Norway
were it was in customs for 20days just because the invoice was
inside the package instead of on the outside... Arild is now
borrowing the JR to see if this is something for him. I think he
loves it... And I love JR /
