DAY .. 30.November
2008 - Pike Perfect Elektro
Nice and sunny day so we took out the Pike
Perfect Electro. A local slope was used and the
30cm of powder that came yesterday was a nice
place to land and make a chair as you see.
Fredrik flew almost the whole flight and had
some fun with aerobatic and found some small
thermals.

DAY .. 28.November
2008 - Predator F3F
Guess dad needs a new toy also? There are some
Chinese producers out there and Gudmund Malones
from Norway have designed a F3F model and got
them to produce the model. I jumped on it
because I got a good deal on a model with small
paint mistakes. When I got it it was more than a
few mistakes and Gudmund simply gave me a new
model instead.
I have written a bit of a
building/flying log HERE -

DAY .. 26.November
2008 - Giga 2000
About time my son got a spare weapon for next
season. A Giga 2000 was found used on the
internet and headed our way. It is not produced
anymore but I remembered that this was a fairly
easy model to fly though a X-tail would be nice
(have a Perfect Xtail that can be fixed I
think). It needs some love and care and possibly
some new or reworked joinerboxes but the wing is
stiff and it zooms nicely of the line. Daddy
took a trimming flight first and then Fredrik
took the second and third launch. Fredrik found
lift after flying around the field a couple of
times and flew a nice 10min flight of the 150m
line on the winch. Next flight he flew a lot of
aerobatics but still managed to find a couple of
thermals to go up again. After 14minutes he
thought it was enough and the light was running
down on us so we called it a happy day (winter
time here with only flying light to 3-4PM).
Landings were all effordless as we had dialled
in a lot of down elevator. I was sure this would
be a problem with the small v-tail but not so!

DAY .. 23.November
2008 - Extra
Cloudy but calm today and last day of the
visitors in the club. Heggefjorden again and I
flew my Extra 300 3 flights. Good day out.
Thanks for visiting. Always nice guys.

DAY .. 22.November
2008 - Verket
Windy yesterday and more today so I drove off
for a slope down south that have been working
before. Had a great day and met some great
people. Very nice to see that Ole Andre Knutsen
(opus carbon) had been practising and was now a
pretty good DS pilot. He topped out at 126mph
(201km/h) and that is good in the 4-8m/s winds
that sometimes topped at 10m/s. Olav Jørgensen
(Big bird double carbon) also had the urge and
got his first DS session in. Got a nice 80mph
speed and he has the thumbs for it for sure. I
enjoyed a using the radar and video camera but
got my sessions in. In the end I just had to top
of Ole Andre's speed before the sun went away
and got 140mph. As the competition pilot I am
had to drive it further and lower off course!
Clipped the wing a couple of meters in front of
us in >140mph in a nice BANG. Model surprisingly
flew on and I managed to land it at the top with
wings all over the place and elevator barely
hanging on. Could not stop smiling because is IS
in fact cool.... Pitty I got damage on this nice
model but I guess it is fixable. First flight
today was with camera on top but the airflow on
the rudder was poor and possibly the gyro I had
on one aileron tried to fix the strange
wobbling. You can see it does strange things on
the
Video. Also flew the Bat wing but it
was not heavy enough and the Vorlon mini F5B
(118cm span, 42inches) topped of at 69mph with
only 450g weight. Cool enough. Snap rolled it at
one point into the ground but still ok. Strange
that so few fly this slope. It is fairly good
lift and one can have loads of fun in the DS
zone here. Can be a bit tight flying when the
wind is not high but that is up to the pilot off
course.

working well today but video is out anyhow...)

DAY .. 21.November
2008 - Extra
We had a mini Christmas party in the club and
members from all over the place joined us for
flying all weekend also. A bit windy today but
some of us did fly before the party.
Heggefjorden just nearby our clubfield had ice.

DAY .. 17.November
2008 - Diablo
Wanted to be the first on the ice we use before
Christmas and guess what happened... But hey I
did fly on that 2inch ice for 15min!
Evening was spent in the clubs building place
with many of the other guys. I fixed a model for
Arild and also mounted a new trainer.

DAY .. 16.November
2008 - wing
Been working on a flying wing for fun DS. It is
rather cheap but with some care and laminating
film it has become both heavier and stiffer. We
tried to test it in Molde but the CG was too far
back and Gudmund helped me collect it far down
the backside of the slope... VERY far. But today
I had arranged the CG better and it flew on a
small slope near Storefjell. It still needs a
bit more work (needs to use 3M77 so the
laminating film does not come loose in the cold)
but it now flies pretty well. Tailfeathers is
stiffened but will be changed to some other
(they are not very nice and needs to be stiffer
by itself). Even got some DS circles but the
slope is small with obsticals in front and it
was only 4-5m/s at the most in the -2C. But a
good day out!!

DAY .. 13-14.November
2008 - Molde
Walkabout on the North west coast. Short update.
Video HERE
(48mb .wmv)
Looks like a GREAT place at Skalten, Molde,
Norway. 699meter and all directions possible.
Today was no wind at sealevel and only a small
breeze 2-4m/s (4-8mph) at the top. Managed to
top 100mph in these very calm conditions
(Skymax3 F3B model). Almost impossible to get
altitude in the front but great DS. Cant wait
for stronger conditions and maybe opposite
direction.

DAY .. 10.November
2008 - Perfect
Nice day so an hour on the winch just before the
sun got down and the Perfect was the tool of the
day. 5 flights within an hour is not bad. 3 of
those was duration and 3 aerobatic fun. One only
needs one hour to setup, fly 5 flights and
packed again.
A small
video and some of it onboard HERE (15mb .wmv)

DAY .. 7.November
2008 - Snowpad
Does a sailplane pilot need a powerpad from
JR/Spectrum? Yes off course it is off great use
when the snow comes rolling in ;)

DAY .. 5.November
2008 - Heli
just out testing the heli and the flycamone.
0 Celcius and it worked so I guess it will go on
the DS model again...
BTW pictures are from my Nikon D40X... Video was
not that exciting just a test. Simply taped on
the hood (3.5mb .wmv).
Terrible quality compared to my Lumix but it is
smaller...

DAY .. 2.November
2008 - Kobra DS
Storm was coming in but nobody knew that but
maybe the guys that had closed the road! I
convinced them I was not really going high up so
they opened for us... It was a great experience
for my son to see how dangerous the mountain can
be. We went up to the usual DS slope and
struggled a bit but settled in the sun for a
nice session with 160mph (257km/h) as a good
topping with onboard camera that sadly stopped
either of cold or the high G-forces (I did
install extra power for it). I landed to remove
the camera since it was clearly doing something
with the rudder turbulence and possibly top
speeds (one could hear it was a new noise in the
air). Landing was nice on the slope but the wind
had picked up and swooosh the model cart wheeled
down the backside.. No big damage.
After removing the camera - checking the model
and a smoke later the wind suddenly picked up A
LOT. It was now not possible to talk to each
other on the normally calm backside. Hard ice
was tumbled around and there was no way I could
launch the model or get to the frontside even
with two hands. Yes I tried!. Model had to be
packed in the bag and we used 30min to walk to
the car only 400m away. We actually had to lay
down in the worst turbulence and my son (30kg)
was tumbled with the wind if he tried something
else... I had to hold on to him when we got out
of the dszone and into the frontside air. We
both smiled all the way behind our ears as it is
so great to beat the nature!!! Went for pizza
and laughed when we met up with some guys that
wanted to know how the weather was on the
mountain. They were driving over and what did
they have on their feet? Crocs.... Be ready for
weather in the mountains! It took less than 5
minutes to change from a good DS day to full
hell.
Sadly no onboard video (I will try again) but
you can get a feel from the conditions with
THIS video (12mb
.wmv)

DAY .. 1.November
2008 - Kobra DS
So desperately want a good last day at the DS
slope before winter calls. Landed the wing 3
times "down there" and had to climb the steep
hill to get it. Good exercise I guess... Nice
weather and I stayed until the chocolate was
eaten...
