DAY .. 31. October 2004
Out flying small models "again"... Today also Erik Eggum joined us with his Majko and Wingo. Tomorrow we will go to Ultramicro to check out their "mondayclub". Ultramicro is the company that makes the Edge, Vertigo and Lierider.
In the evening I finished my new Edge that Arild bought for me a while ago. I flew it under a roadlight to see if everything was ok. It was :-) BUt I have to adjust the CG and make the wing a bit stiffer.

Erik Eggum have made some cool videos...
Dogpracticeet in the new diciplin FAI F3D(dog) with Wingo (3,8mb .wmv)
Microlight planes hovering (3,6mb .wmv)
Microlight planes, "new age cut" (3,7mb .wmv)

I will hopefully get time to make a compile of good Lierider stuff also but have not made time for it yet. But here are some new stuff of me flying Lierider. Click HERE (13,6mb .wmv)

BTW Happy haloween!

DAY .. 30. October 2004
Outdoor flying with Arild`s new Vertigo. This is Arild`s second Vertigo but this one flew a lot better. It actually is easier and more calm to fly than the Lierider but not so clean aerobatic. I got some sticktime on it and the LRK motor he uses gives very good power with the 10x3,8 APC.

DAY .. 29. October 2004
Indoor flying in the evening. I flew my Lierider and X-wing while Arild flew his Lierider and his X-wing was flown by several. Both Erik and Christian got some flights on it. Look at those faces :-)

DAY .. 26. October 2004
Sun was out shining but still cold with -1 degree and smoke on the water. So I flew first in Fagernes and then moved to the waterfront at Leira for some photo session above the "smoking water". Lierider is still alive strange enough.

DAY .. 24. October 2004
Back in business after a laptop failure.. Bought a new one in a hurry. Cost me a it of money but...
Sunday I was flying F5J postal competition with my AVA. Had not flown with my AVA electric for a long time but thought it would be ok on the first run. How wrong can one be! When a battery pack has not been used for a month there is little juice left even if your charger says its full. After 2 climbs of 8-10sec it was empty but I did manage to get a good time. In the landing my servo horn for spoiler broke of and I had to fly the next two rounds without spoiler. It was kind of strange not to have any landing aids and it was good practice. It shows how important a good break is. I also flew my Lierider a bit before me and Arild headed back home to warm up the fingers. It was no wind but only +2 degrees celcius and low clouds made it cold.
Comp page HERE or see the F5J page
In the evening I flew just outside my house and ended up on the roof of my neighbours house. The model got a few scratches but after 10min repairs it is flying again :-)))

DAY .. 22. October 2004
Several days with gray and wet weather and even some snow have made it impossible to fly sailplanes (or atleast difficult). But suddenly the clouds opened up today and I should have been up with the sailplanes. But too much other stuff made me fly "only" the LieRider. Fantasatic lightning today as you see of the pictures. Even some ducks got into the first pictures :-) I tested the new LiPo pack from
T&K (1050mah, 3 cell and 54,9g) with the 8x3,8 APC prop. I finished flying after 15minutes and charged it. 670mah came into it. This means I can fly apx 24 minutes with full acro and hovering with this pack and an average of only 2,7A is very nice. With this propeller it goes vertical pretty fast with no cuts by the controller. The controller (TMM 0810 rated 8A) is set up in basic mode so it cuts if the current is too high but obviously I am not above. The controller can also be programmed in competition mode and this needs to be done with some other motors (I will not say names...)
So I can strongly recommend my setup for this type of model (200-250g models). Motor: AXI 2204/54, battery: 1050mah 3S LiPo (54,9g), prop: 8x3,8 APC, controller: TMM 0810

BTW This weekend there is F5J extreme. Postal competition!

DAY .. 18. October 2004
Some days in Oslo for a visit to a hospital but I did get some flying on the way there. I did some nightflying late in the night and that was cool. Sadly no pictures but my setup with 5 pieces of 3v LED's was great and I could see the whole plane while flying. In Oslo I visited
T&K and bought a new promissing 3 cell 1050mah LiPo pack that can take 10C and weighs 54,9g. That sounds very low weight for my LieRider. They had also got maybe the first turbine helicopter to Norway and he checked the package while I was there!! Cool but maybe a bit expensive? Picture of the BIG Graupner package HERE

DAY .. 17. October 2004
Out flying the Lierider in differrent places today and got some good photos. I was first at a local waterfall but it was difficult to keep the model in the same place since the water produces wind. Then I went to the local lake and it is kind of cool to hover above the water. I am not good enough yet to "dip" the rudder but hope to be :-)
I also tried a 2x1200mah LiPo pack and it worked great for outdoor flying. It will not make my model go vertical much but it hangs well by the proppeller and the motortime is loooong. Here are what I have found so far:
AXI 2204/54:
- 3x340 LiPo and APC 8x3,8 I fly 6-8min and it accelarate well in vertical. Thrust >350g
- 3x340 LiPo and APC 9x3,8 almost the same but a bit ttoo high ampere so it seems that the prop is too big.
- 3x340 LiPo and GWS 9x4,7 even more power but motor goes a bit hot if you fly a lot on full power. But one does not want do go full power anyhow.
- 3x1200 LiPo lots of power but a bit fast for indoor flying (more weight).
- 2x700 LiPo and 8x3,8 it barely accelarates but hangs nice by the propeller. apx 250g thrust. Good for most acroflying.
- 2x700 LiPo and GWS 9x4,7 it accelaratees ok and this setup is what I fly the most.
- Med 2x1200 LiPo og GWS 9x4,7 it accelarates ok vertical but not more. A little bit too heavy for indoor flying since it gets heavy but great for outdoor acroflying because of long motortime.
Optimal is probably 3x700 LiPo and APC 8x3,8 or GWS 9x4,7 and for indoor flying 3x340 LiPo. Point is that you have almost too much power but the motor runs better around half throttle. If you fly full throttle all the time the motor might be too hot. Hangs by the proppelar at 30-40% throttle.
I have updated the picturepage

DAY .. 17. October 2004
Flying in the local park with Arild. Me with Lierider and Arild with Lierider. I flew over 17minutes and also tested 3S 1200 LiPo pack that gives plenty of flying time but a heavier model. The model flyes faster but is still very nice to fly. In the evening I prepared some lights for my model so that I can fly it while it is dark outside. I have also lights inside the fuse that blinks so that the whole fuse is seen. I did not have a proper converter from the flight pack so I ended up with some small NiCd and a extra weight of 20g. Should not be a problem :-)
BTW Sorry all you sailplane guys - there should have been more silent flight here. You can go to www.F3X.no for a report on the Viking Race F3F in Rugen, Germany. Espen reported to me by phone and Ronny Sandslett took some pictures.

DAY .. 16. October 2004
Indoor today and I flew my X-wing first to get my thums moving. Same did Arild. I then moved to the LieRider for some serious practice of indoor acro. I find it hard to do the same as I do outside. When flying outside I try to picture the hall and do all the aerobatic I know (hovering, stallturn, loops, flips, etc) but inside the walls keeps you "on toes" in another way. So I was more careful but still I did a lot of what I hoped for.

DAY .. 12. October 2004
Just  little flight outside my house had to be done... Some powerlines, trees, etc. No problemo.

DAY .. 12. October 2004
Today I had to "get rid of" a LiPo cell. What better way than to test it for crashing? A long stick with a screw in and 5min later I was bored.. It had been charged (not much since it was poor) but almost no reaction could be seen. So I flew  some windy conditions with my LieRider instead. A video of those that just have to see some "crushing" HERE 5,1mb

Later in the day I met up with Arild and his sons that were flying some buddy flying with Geir Atle as teacher. I ended up with the glue after a low inverted flight in windy conditions with my LieRider... The good thing about depron is that it is easy to repair and one can hardly see most repairs. I also tested GWS 9x4,7 and compared to APC 9x3,7. It seems that the GWS is very good on two cells 700mah while the APC is too big. Interresting. There are also onew GWS props on the market I hear. Will have to try some if I can find any.

DAY .. 11. October 2004
Out playing with my Lierider again. Nice weather but cold. Only 3 degress celcius now and the sun is not very powerful. Flew one battery 700mah 2cell Lipo. More detailed pictures in the "Lieriderpage"

DAY .. 10. October 2004
OK 2 Lierider's are finished and i have started some winter powerflying... Me and Arild both were finished at the same time and we testflew at a stadium nearby. Some wind and rotors made the first flights a but "strange" but after charging we had some nice time at a footbal field nearby. Arild's Lierider is equipped with Klepaker motor and 3 cells while I am using the AXI 2204/54 and one 2 cell pack and one 3 cell pack LiPo. I have just tested with 8x3,8 APC and while 3 cells is perfect with lots of power ( >350g thrust at 7,2A ) my 2 cell pack is not that cool but enough for almost all flying ( >240g thrust at 6,4A ). But I think the 2 cell pack will be fine with bigger prop (have more testing to do). Arild's Lierider is 210g ready to go while mine is 208g. I did empty my battery today and broke my special carbon landing gear.. So I might also be at 210 or something very soon. Without battery and landing gear both models are 148-150g. I used mainly CA glue while Arild used UHU poor. So it does not seem to be any difference in what glue we use. Atleast not big differences. Video is made. 9,1mb .wmv HERE

Thanks to Arnfinn Lie for the good construction. Support him by buying a Lierider at Ultramicro or at T&K (cheaper if you are member of Cirrus)

DAY .. 9. October 2004
Received all my gear to the Lierider from El-flight in Denmark today. Very good to have a shop that actually have everything in storage and can ship immediately. So we built half the day and are almost finsihed. Probably some testflights tomorrow. Back home for dinner I had prepared something that I remember well from my trip to Canada. Gordy Stahl have supplied me with a lot of sauces and I had prepared some meat for the grill. Thanks Gordy I suddenly was back in Canada chatting with you and the National team that you found yourself a member of ;-)

DAY .. 8. October 2004 Lierider
The new carbon landing gear is finished. It seems strong enough and before sanding the weight are 0,8 and 1g!!

DAY .. 7. October 2004 Lierider
More work but this time I am trying to make some light landing gear. First test came out at 1g but needs to a bit stronger. But it was only a test and have now moved up from carbon rowing and 5min epoxy to: UMS carbon and 24 hour epoxy! First tests was with silicon tube that I pull the carbon rowing into. It became ok if I used just the right amount rowing. But I had to cut the tube of and I dont have access to enough tube.
More pictures added.

DAY .. 6. October 2004 Lierider
More work on our Lierider's. Mine is getting a real heavy psycho paintjob... pictures

DAY .. 4. October 2004 Lierider
Me and Arild started building our Lierider's. Lots of coffee, cakes and some glue later we are nearly finished with the fuses. Arild took some pictures and I guess we will continue to document the process.

DAY .. 3. October 2004
It should have been a great day of LSF flying but just after we had set up the winches the rain came pooring down on us. We sat under my tent for 3 hours before we called it a day. Just as I had packed up the winches the sun came offcourse.. Typical! We ended up flying small planes before I went the long way home (200km). T&K was delivered some "Lierider's" and I took the opportunity to buy 2 of them to a better price than normal since I am a member of the club Cirrus and get a discount. They are high priced as a depron set but the quality seems good. BTW a nice salute to Smallsize hobby shop for sticking to it in the rain! A bunch of pictures can be found HERE

DAY .. 1. October 2004
Me and Arild Hagabråten was ready for some indoor. Me with X-wing and Arild with his Edge. The Edge was a bit fast for indoor for sure. Full power is just too much in the small hall... He ended up "behind bars" in the spectator area. But Arild have a Vertigo and that should be much more relaxing. I also hit the wall and broke of a servo horn on my X-wing. Tomorrow there is LSF competition in Oslo (Ekebergsletta) and some showflying. I was also a bit embarrased today after a "profile of the day" in the local newspaper. But the article was nice :-)
