DAY ..
28.September 2008 - F3B
Last F3B of the season in Spydeberg.

A good finish of the season
though weather made us struggle more than usual
on this field. Before lunch we had 2-8m/s coming
from the side or/and behind and over a small
hill. Launches needed to be around the
turnaround and thru the sun and we had some
interesting flips on the line. We also had a
couple of the guys stretching their limit and
the tree elephants grabbed them. Both models
almost unharmed though.
After lunch we changed the winch direction and
off course the wind died a bit but still made it
difficult as we also launched one direction but
had flying start in the speed flying 90degrees
to the wind. But the best man won and it was
good practice for all to have this difficult
conditions.
I flew my Freestyler but as always struggled
with pulling too hard in the speed. So easy on
practice but not in a competition... Became
speedmaster though and are very happy with my
duration task since it was difficult today.

DAY ..
27.September 2008 - DS
Up in the mountains for DS. Cool weather with
some storm coming in. I think it was the "Ike"
that rumbled US a week or so ago. The clouds
came in but first the winds and man did I work
them! It was violent and turbulent like nothing
else before it smoothened out and the speeds
were cool for half an hour and died out (no good
readings on the radar above 130mph sadly). Ended
the day with some nice aerobatic flying and a
rudder that stopped working (blew the gears on
the rudder servo after I forgot to tape the
rudder. I usually does that when flying real
heavy DS). It also gave me an opportunity to try
a very cheap trick I read about on RcGroups and
found on a stand at the Masters. A
23$ gyro was
installed on one aileron of the Kobra and the
gain set almost all the way down. It actually
seemed to work. In medium to low speeds I do get
twisted around a bit on this slope but now the
model seemed to be on rails. I could see it
worked at times as the gain was a bit high and
since the gyro was only on one aileron you could
see it did not correct the most violent
turbulence correctly (differential not correct).
Here is a
video of some flying with the gyro ( 34mb .wmv )

DAY ..
26.September 2008 - Stølen
Went up to the summer farm and flew the
Freestyler. No wonder I popped off at the
Nationals a few times. The link on one V-tail
was loose..
Took some "other" shots today HERE

DAY ..
18-21.September 2008 -
World Soaring Masters
After a bunch
of emails LJ convinced me and I attended the
World Soaring Masters in USA 19-21.sep 08
Read my blog at
www.f3x.no/wsm/2008

DAY ..
16.September 2008 - Airphoto
Did a mission for a company taking photos of
some "cottages" that is for sale. Rarely have I
seen a so unfinished place for sale. But if they
pay it is ok by me ;)

DAY ..
13-14.September 2008 - Norwegian
Championship F3J
Back from the Nationals and it was a great event
with 8 preliminary rounds and 4 finals. My son
flew very well and even with only launch and
thermal model managed to shake some legs in many
rounds. He circles both ways like he has done
nothing else and adjusts the circles or way
without me needing to say anything. He is now
qualified for the European Championship next
year (me to since I won the Norwegian Cup
overall) and I hope he is just as ready next
summer. Myself? I won the preliminary rounds but
was pumped and not ready in the first final
leaving me hunting for air other places than the
others just in case they came down (they did not
as the air was good). But I am happy as can be
and it was a blast to fly with my son. My team
took first place so we kind of took gold anyhow
;)

DAY ..
10.September 2008 - Supra Fredrik
Straight off for a burger and then flying after
school. Fredrik got one flight before the rain
upon us. "so what" said Fredrik... Well we did
pack up after waiting an hour.

DAY ..
9.September 2008 - Supra Fredrik
A VERY proud dad today. My son Fredrik flew for
the first time his Supra and ALL landings were
within 3m and in the 4th landing he even made a
hole in his own caps!!!!! Now he launches
himself and reads air too. The air was very calm
today so fairly easy off course but I think he
is good enough to do whatever he wants. He is
now entered in the Nationals this weekend! Daddy
is proud!

DAY .. 7.September 2008 - MPX Fox
Up in the mountain with my son and visiting
grandma. Went out and flew my sons MPX Fox. He
is getting the hang of it and loves to fling
this one.

DAY ..
6.September 2008 - National Championship
F3B
Too tired to write but very difficult place to
fly (and that is great for a championship),
partly sunny 10-15C, hot lunch included, 2-5m/s
east. We started early at 08:00 or that was the
plan. We did have a funny accident with some
wires that slowed us down a bit the first hour.
6 rounds duration and 6 rounds speed was done
before 17:00 and though it went slow. We have to
work all the time with so few pilots and that
wears people down. But in the end we were still
smiling after a good flying day. Thanks to the
organizers that pulled it off. Not too many
clubs around that wants to have a go at
Nationals these days. Also thanks to Knut Vidar
that helped me thru the speeds and Tor for the
duration.
I forgot most of my ballast to the SKymax4 so I
decided to give the Freestyler a go. I struggled
A LOT in the duration but by good spotting and
tactics and managed to pull it off with a first
place and gold medal in the end.

DAY ..
5.September 2008 - National Championship
F3B
Arrived a day early and got some practice
flights on the field with most of the guys
arriving thru the evening. We camped with
Gjermund in his new cottage. Fantastic place and
he treated us with food and beverages thru the
evening.
DAY ..
3.September 2008 - Kobra DS
Someone had found that I had posted a few videos
from my last DS session and questioned the
calculations on a video for speed. As all
calculations it depends on what you have to work
with so I figured I would go to the DS slope and
have a session to compare my radar with video
calculations. My radar is not the best but I got
some speeds and video to go with it. It seemed
accurate enough for me ;) I also recorded a
237mph run and that was nice since the
conditions was not the best. Every time a
thermal went thru the conditions were pretty
good.
