DAY .. 28.
September - 2002Some quiet days after the four days at the nationals in F3J/B. Guess who got 1st place ? Well it was lovely to finally get that goldmedal around my neck. I also got best in the combined F3J and F3B even with only 9th in the F3B (I hope I can do better next time). For the combined I got a Mini Floah from T&K seilflysport as prize and for best single flight in F3J I got a new GT Wing from Flying Wings. Espen also delivered my new Opus. The Opus looks great and is really good workmanship. The finish is great and it looks so stiff that I cant wait to get some action at the DS-slope. With 4 servo wing and 90degree flap it should also be able to land properly. Opus is delivered by ET-AIR.com Tomorrow is the annual Ekebergevent with 3x7min on winch. See some of you there I guess :-) DAY .. 19-22. September - 2002 The nationals in F3B / F3J is ongoing for 4 days on Starmoen airport. The nationals is organized by Løten MFK and their web page can be seen HERE. If you look at the F3J.no-pages that I am webmaster for you will see more results and pictures..... Maybe I am there at the top..... More reports later but I am proud to say a big thnx to Samba model and Østbye Hobby & Sport for the support! And more. Inge Balswick and also the rest of this years F3J.no-team have a big piece of the action so thnx guys I appreciate your company and support :-)
DAY .. 17. September - 2002 The day started with no wind at all but during the day the wind picked up and I should have been on the DS-slope today.. But since I am going to the nationals tomorrow I took out the Organic 2,5m on a local slope. Had some great airtime in 20minutes. Strange how little time one needs to have some fun. From the time I stopped the car and until I was packed to go home only 10 of the 30 minutes was dead time. ![]()
DAY .. 16.
September - 2002Today I tested some NEW equipment for the national championship in both F3B and F3J that starts on Thursday. I should be well prepared now and are in a very good mood. The nationals goes over 4 days so there should be plenty of flying :-) DAY .. 15. September - 2002 Today it was F3B at Spydeberg. Sadly I was a little hard in a turn with bad air so I touched the round in a furious speed. One joiner gone but still the model is in excellent condition (The Superior). The results is therefore not so good but we had a nice day on the field. Results can be seen on Cirrus web page. BTW Yesterday I was in a wedding so I was a bit reduced... High speed sports does not combine good with drinking... DAY .. 13. September - 2002 FINALLY - Ref. Espen says: "No Limits - Just DS! It will change your life!" Today the late summer winds started and with Northwest 10-15m/s I could again really rock the planet with some DS-action on the slope I like most. The "new/old" Pike WR Extreme I bought was abused in every way I could think of. It is still in one piece though I feared for its life today!!! There were also other people on the slope and one with a dog that wanted my plane. I flew a few really low blow-outs and the dog stopped... I guess dogs get scared too.. :-O ![]() DAY .. 12. September - 2002 Are we in paradise ? 23 degrees Celsius again today and the Superior got a few starts. Have you ever seen Jaws the movie. Well a Pike does also have a big mouth. See the pictures after a landing....
![]() DAY .. 11. September - 2002 When are the winter coming ? Still nice and sunny with 22degrees in the shade here. Today I tested a "new" machine again. I just bought a used Pike WR Extreme just to have a spare F3B machine for the nationals next weekend. It performed just as expected :-) The Superior also got a spin. BTW It will be for sale in 2 weeks time for 6000Nkr WITH servos and ready to go. It is not new but looks ok on the top but with some damage on the bottom skin. The price is very cheap because of those minor faults. ![]() |
DAY .. 9.
September - 2002Some flights with the Organic 2,5m on a local field. Great day with wind coming down from the mountain and clear but not strong thermals. I used the winch and the Organic was equipped with the Lolo just for the fun of it. DAY .. 8. September - 2002 2 meter postal competition with my Mini-phønix!!!! See the report HERE
DAY .. 6.
September - 2002Just had to go and abuse the winch a bit. 5 starts with three speed runs and two times 10 minutes with 0-1 landing. Why cant I do that on competition ? Probably because I am nervous. I just have to keep practicing and have new goals. The speed runs was not that good and from the Lolo I can see that they are around 20-24seconds (4x150m). I am getting better on using the height more equal on each leg so that is good. Still missing a bit on the turns. I have tried to practice the speed on different directions and with turns not only the same way. Hopefully I will be confident in turning any way and that will help me to get better overall. DAY ..
3.
September - 2002Still very hot here in Norway. Winch was the tool today and there was plenty of thermals. Used my small tape recorder to get some landing practice and also tested the winch after 4 starts. Not that big difference as I thought it would be on the winch power and my landings were all 0-1m. From now my goal is to land 0-0,5 each time and within the last 5 seconds of working time. One have to have a goal..... DAY ..
2.
September - 2002Some time ago Egil Myr managed to get hold of a testing device for winches. No winches are being produced in Norway by Gjermund Westad and it was time to check the winches. There were also new rules for winches in F3B so Gjermund and I was curious about if our winches was according to the rules. Today I have tested my winch and it was according to the rules. But if I want I can get even more out of it if I adjust it. Today I tested with batteries charged tonight so tomorrow I will test with top charged batteries. It is essential that it is not only the winch that is tested but the whole system with batteries and cables. The rules say a system with internal resistance of 23 milliohm and my winch ended up with 24,2 or 25,7 milliohm depending on what battery I used. I knew one of the batteries was better than the other..... BTW the test is done when the winch is stopped and the current that was measured was between 502-534A.... That is apx 6 times greater than the main fuse in your house or about 5 kilowatt's. This is real power-stuff so do not do this at home kids.... DAY .. 1. September - 2002 F3J competition on Spydeberg. 15 competitors at the start line. Since there were only 15 pilots we arranged for 3 5-men teams. This meant only 3 pilots in each group but then everybody had good time. Again I flew good but did not get the results. One major mistake in the first round was something to learn from. We had been flying for only a few minutes and the sink was big. One pilot came in for a relaunch and the other one - 80 year old Gunnar Berge was in only 10-15m height. I also went for a relaunch - mistake number one.... 80 year old Gunnar Berge had been practicing lately and found a thermal in at 10m and went up! Damn that meant 644 points out of 1000 in round 1. The next three rounds I didn't give away a single point. Only thousands but still only 5th place overall. Only three people came to the finals and I was NOT there..... The only one I gave points to in this competition was 80 year old Gunnar Berge - Congratulations - well done and I will watch you next time !-) |

January 2002 - Det er kaldt, vinter,
elektroflyging, men også plutselig varmegrader og årets første 12min
termikktur. Fikk endelig slept i gang Mini-phønix'n og har testet en ny X-wing
fra Flying wings i Stavanger. You want back to Mainpage of the diary ? Or mainpage Jo Grini ? |
